About New York Harbor School
Student Sailing

New York Harbor School is a public high school founded in 2003 by the Urban Assembly, South Street Seaport Museum and Waterkeeper Alliance through New Visions for Public Schools and the New York City Department of Education. Our Mission is to use New York's maritime experience to create a rigerous, college preparatory curriculum that instills in its students the ethic and skills of stewardship.

New York Harbor School was born of the belief that the natural resources of New York Harbor and the New York Metropolitan community together form an untapped potential for excellence in secondary public school education. Our challenge is bringing new York's rich maritime experience to the students in the classroom and extending the classroom to include these resources.
