Our Vision

New York Harbor School seeks to work with an ethnically and academically diverse group of students to create the next generation of water resource managers, users, scientists and conservationists. We envision recruiting students interested in water-related careers and teaching them the skills, content and certifications necessary to excel in the water-related field they choose and especially in their post-secondary education. Through this program that converges water-related experiences with a core academic curriculum, students will gain a deep understanding of the role water has played in their lives, and in the lives of all New Yorkers and people throughout the world. They will learn the content and skills necessary not only to graduate, and go on to post-secondary education, but also to become leaders in their own communities protecting that which they cherish, whether water related or not.

Our Mission

Based upon our ambitious vision of creating a corps of water-related professionals, New York Harbor School uses New York City's maritime experience to create a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum that also instills in its students the ethic and skills of stewardship.

New York Harbor School seeks to graduate young men and women who: 1) think critically and creatively; 2) demonstrate strong skills in mathematics, language, literature, history, science, technology, athletics and the arts; 3) communicate clearly, intelligently and persuasively; 4) believe in themselves, their abilities and their futures; 5) show a deep understanding and appreciation of New York Harbor and its relevance in their lives, 6) have developed good intellectual habits; 7) are far advanced along their chosen path towards post-secondary education in a water-related field; and 8) are committed to a lifetime of learning and involvement in their communities.
